The ENGINEERING INFORMATION CENTER is here to provide technical support to FIU’s College of Engineering and Computing community. We’ve created this page to give you quick introduction to a few of the resources that we offer to all members of the CEC community. CEC Novell Account

CEC Accounts, previously known as Novell Accounts, is a special account created to help you access any tools within EIC, that is available to the CEC community. This account is separate from your FIU account and is created for new CEC students by submitting a new account registration form. Passwords for your CEC account will expire every 6 months.

Do I need to sign up for a CEC Account?

New CEC students, faculty, and staff will have to have a CEC account in order to fully access all of the college’s resources and services. If you are enrolled in a CEC course before the start of the semester, one will automatically be created for you.

If you need to register for a CEC account, please fill out the New Account Registration Form once you have your FIU e-mail, to access all the EIC’s programs. Your username will be the fist part of your FIU e-mail (without the @fiu.edu) and the default password will be emailed to you. You must change the default password when your account is first created by clicking here.

What does my CEC Account give me access to?
Your CEC account gives you access to all of EIC’s services and programs, including: shared drives, the EIC help desk, Citrix Apps and more!
What are my default CEC (Novell) Credentials?

When new accounts are made the default credentials are as follow:
Username: jdoe001 (First part of your FIU email: jdoe001@fiu.edu)
Password: Fiu######## (where the #s indicate your panther ID).

Your will be emailed when your CEC (Novell) password is about to expire.

Help! I forgot/need to reset my password.

You can reset or change your CEC account password at any time by clicking here. Please note that your password will automatically expire and you will get an alert when needing to update your password.

Citrix Apps

The Citrix client gives students the ability to access engineering applications such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, MS Office, and others from any secure internet connection.

What is Citrix?

Citrix is an application that provides a virtualization solution for engineering applications and desktop delivery for any devices, over any network. Simply download their client or sign on to the web interface in order to access all of your applications that you will need for your engineering/computing classes. 

How can I access/download Citrix?

Citrix can be accessed by downloading their client to your computer or via their web interface. It is strongly recommended to use the Citrix client, as not all apps work on the web interface. For more information on how to setup your own Citrix client, please visit our page here for instructions.

What operating systems are supported?

The Citrix client supports both Windows and Mac environments. Specific instructions on Citrix client setup for your operating system can be found here.

What do I need to access Citrix?

To login to Citrix and access the software application you will need a CEC (Novell) account.

Shared Drives

Shared drives are drives that each student has access to, that is linked to their CEC account. This gives students the ability to store files and data on our servers that are able to be accessed from anywhere via a remote connection. The student’s folder will be labeled the H: drive and will be for personal use. All work should be saved here, especially when using a remote desktop connection.

How can I access my shared drives?

Shared drives are able to be accessed once you’re logged in to any EIC computer by default. You can also access your shared drives remotely via web browser or Citrix Apps. For more information on how to access shared drives remotely, click here.

Can I access them remotely?

Computer Labs

Your CEC (Novell) account will allow you to work in any of the 6 instructional computers labs and 2 open labs at the Engineering Center as well as the ability to login remotely. Our state-of-the-art computer labs come well equipped with any application you may need for your CEC courses.

How can I access my shared drives?

How can I access the computer labs?

Our computer labs can be accessed in person or via remote desktop connection with a stable internet connection.

Using your CEC (Novell) Credentials: Please click here to find out how to access our labs remotely using your Novell account to get access to all the programs/apps you may need for your classes. Please note, you will need to have a CEC (Novell) account and FIU’s VPN working in order to access our labs remotely.

When are the computer labs open?

We recommend that our labs be accessed via remote connection with CEC (Novell) credentials  or MyFIU credentials which are accessible 24/7.
Our physical labs can be accessed according to the following schedule:

Open hours for EC 2710

Monday – Friday
8:30 am – 12:00 pm
1:00 pm – 3:00 pm
4:00 pm – 6:00 pm

Please note the computer labs are closed for university holidays, maintenance periods between semesters and due to unexpected emergencies.

How do I log in to the computers remotely?

You can login using your CEC (Novell) account or your MyFIU account to access our computer labs remotely and must have FIU’s VPN active.

EIC Help Desk

The Engineering Information Center provides Help Desk Services to our Engineering and Computing community. In order for you to be able to log into the Help Desk you will need to have a CEC (Novell) account.

Printing Services

We have a variety of options for printing at EIC, whether it’s for class or senior design projects. Printing services are available for all students and staff within CEC and an initial credit of $10 is applied to your account at the beginning of the semester.

Laptop Loaner Program

Laptop computers are available for checkout to any Engineering student in good standing currently enrolled in a College of Engineering course. For checkout and return times please check with the office staff.
